An OS that puts your computer to work for you

Maple Linux is here to help you work. Your data stays yours, your screen stays yours, and your computer's power goes to what you are doing.

A flexible, easy to maintain distribution built for Canadian users

  • Fast

You don’t need the latest hardware. Computers five years old or older run it perfectly well.

  • Free

Like Debian, Maple Linux is free for anyone to use: personal, institutional or commercial. Enterprise support is available from Maple Open Tech.

  • Powered by Debian

Debian has built a reputation for stability and quality, which is why it is the base for Maple Linux.

  • Privacy focused

Modelled on Canadian and EU (GDPR) privacy standards. No telemetry, no phoning home, no distracting ads.

  • Customizable

It ships with the Cinnamon desktop. Want something different? Install it from the standard Debian repositories.

  • Reliable

Linux powers the internet, AI and millions of desktop computers. Reliability is at its core.

What comes in the box

  • Debian 13 and Cinnamon

Built on Debian 13 “Trixie” with the Cinnamon desktop, set up with custom defaults, a themed login screen and a matching set of wallpapers.

  • Bilingual by design

English and Canadian French locales come pre-configured, so it is easy to work in either official language.

  • Canadian DNS

Live sessions use CIRA Canadian Shield: privacy-focused, malware-blocking DNS run in Canada.

  • LibreWolf

A privacy-focused fork of Firefox, as the browser.

  • LibreOffice

A complete office suite with multilingual support, for the documents you already have.

  • Modest hardware

A 64-bit x86 PC, 2 GB of RAM (4 GB recommended) and 20 GB of disk space.

From download to desktop in four steps

  1. 01

    Download

Take the ISO, a little under 5 GB, or the torrent, which is faster and survives an interrupted connection.
  2. 02

    Verify

Check the download against its SHA-512 checksum and detached GPG signature before you use it.
  3. 03

Write it to a USB drive

The installation guide covers doing this on Windows, macOS and Linux.
  4. 04

    Boot, try, install

Boot from the drive, try the live session, and install when you are ready.
